Collaboration-The Power of Four

I have been  reflecting on varied experiences of collaborators. Through discussions with colleagues and reading a variety of personal experiences of collaborators in teaching I have significantly noticed the differences in comments relating to the reflections on the student teacher ratios. I have been tuned into the references made to :
The power of 2
The power of 3
and The power of 4.

There are positives and challenges of working in each of these groupings and there is no one model that suits all. However, what I have established is that there are some elements that make what we do when we collaborate more efficient instead of more work.

A positive of working with the power of 4, in which I currently work, relates to being able to bounce ideas off 3 others. A challenge of this can be the time spent doing this and being able to manage this effectively. We find that it is easy to get carried away with our varied and exciting ideas, at times. And , at other times we simply need to stop and come back to a plan at a later time with fresh thinking. When learning new techniques and ways of teaching it is wonderful to be on a shared journey with others and  beneficial to be able to support each other on this journey. When creating our recent PBL for students in our hub we proved that what we completed together was much better than what we ever would have been able to have achieved alone.

Something I have found challenging when collating data of 108 students across 4 groups is the time spent loading assessment data into spreadsheets. A difficulty I have with this relates to the time it takes to complete sharing data of students I work with across 4 domains. I'm not as technologically savvy as I would like to be and I'm wondering how there may be a smarter way to do this! We are ultimately aiming for success!

  1. Great post Melissa. I am sure we will develop smarter systems over time - certainly open to any new ideas your team has for this. Love the quote.
