George Couros talks about encouraging students to follow their passions while we should be doing the same. He views twitter as a means of bringing global ideas into the classroom through connections on twitter.
Some ideas of what we could do:
Hashtag for professional learning days
20 minute summary- stop and summarize what you have learned- 140 character reflection.
Image sharing- with a blurb about your thinking.
Group hashtag modification- groups sharing a big idea in some type of reflection.
30 second video reflections- to encourage individuals to process their thinking. Doesn't have to be focused on individual...could be focused on an object.
Collect ideas in a storify-putting tweets into context and encouraging shared views of professional learning.
Benefits:
Sharing professional learning with parents, so they know what it is we are doing.
Modelling what we are doing...Connecting from within the classroom.
George's view on these simple ideas seems to be that this could help our learning to go viral. This has to be a positive as the simple term "go viral" is what many of the students we teach consider to be something to aspire to.....and for us as educators has the potential to be a powerful way to collaborate.
